Chrisp Street Market is a community focussed, mixed-use scheme to reinvigorate Chrisp Street Market originally built as part of the Festival of Britain Exhibition of Architecture in 1951. The masterplan retains and enhances the existing Festival of Britain buildings creating c.700 new BTR units, 200,000 sq ft of retail to provide a new marketplace, including a new food store, community spaces and affordable workspaces. The southern entrance to the site is signalled by a landmark 22 storey tower which draws people into the market square from East India Dock Road. M3 developed a strategy to re-focus the scheme from market-sale residential to build to rent, and an increase in unit numbers to support overall viability. We oversaw design changes, public consultation and a section 73 planning application, while implementing the existing consent before expiry.
