Four step down at RICS as Independent Review published

13 September 2021

The RICS Governing Council has accepted all findings and recommendations of the Independent Review by Allison Levitt QC into the events following an internal audit of its treasury management, including the unfair dismissal of four non-executive board members. The report concluded that the events resulted from a "power struggle" rather than a cover up due to lack of clarity of roles and responsibilies as well as a lack of scrutiny.  Recommendations include that a comprehensive external review of the organisation's purpose, governance and strategy, greater oversight of the Governing Council, and revision of whistleblowing procedures.

Chief executive Sean Tompkins, president Kathleen Fontana, governing council chair Chris Brookes and management board chair Paul Marcuse have resigned. Nick Maclean is acting as Temporary Chair of the Governing Council.
